Lisa Veglia, LCSW, MPA

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: Co-chair of the Children’s Committee of the Queens Council on Developmental Disabilities, Lisa Veglia is currently responsible for numerous Quality Services for the Autism Community (QSAC) programs including evaluation, pre-school, day-school, early intervention, special education programs and much more. She also sits on the board of the Long Island Crisis Center.

PERSONAL: Veglia likes to stay active by playing golf, tennis and skiing. She is currently living in Oceanside and was the recipient of June Marcus Award 2010 given by the Queens Council on Developmental Disabilities.

PROUDEST MOMENT: “Getting services that were difficult to get . . . getting some of the education programs off the ground. They were an idea on a piece of paper that came to fruition and now we are serving many children in our schools since 1998.”

BIGGEST CHALLENGE: “I’m excited about figuring out ways to preserve the services that we have so that families and individuals can continue to receive those services. There will be cuts and we have to figure out ways to make sure that the cuts don’t affect the services we provide.”

FAVORITE MEMORY: “My parents were much older when they had me. I always worried that they wouldn’t get to see me graduate college. Would they ever see me graduate grad school? Would they ever see me become successful in my career? And they have. They are in their 90s today. My special memory would be having them attend my grad school graduation.”

INSPIRATION: “I’m inspired today by the challenges that we face. Your strengths emerge through times of crisis. And we are in a crisis right now.” – Bob Doda
