A Bellerose street turned into a demolition derby Saturday night after a pickup truck rear-ended a BMW by 88th Road and Commonwealth Boulevard Saturday night, causing a nine-car accident, police said.
Only the Chevy pickup and BMW were occupied, according to 105th Precinct Det. Jovoda Cooper, when the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night.
She did not identify occupants of the vehicles but said there were no fatalaties due to the accident.
Three people were taken to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset with unknown injuries, according to the accident report.
Mike Augugliaro of the Queens Colony Civic Association said he was hosting a party at his house when he heard what he said sounded like an explosion.
“It looked like a war zone in front of my house,” he said.
The accident led to a chain reaction that damaged seven other cars.
Auguliaro said the battery of his Chrysler 300 shot out of the hood and landed across the street.
He said his car and vehicles belonging to his wife and daughter were totaled and his other daughter had front-end damage to her car.
Police officers took insurance cards from the owners of the damaged vehicles because too much paperwork was involved, Augugliaro said.
Angela Augugliaro said the driver of one of the two vehicles stopped by the scene and asked if anyone witnessed the accident.
