JACKSON HEIGHTS — A man who wanted to stop a thief from breaking into his car May 22 got punched instead.
The victim noticed 28-year-old Juan Cabas of 108-27 41st Ave. allegedly rummaging around inside his 2001 Toyota Highlander at around 7:10 p.m., according to the Queens district attorney.
But when the car owner approached, instead of stopping Cabas allegedly punched him in the chest, the DA said.
Police recovered a screwdriver, a hammer and a socket wrench from Cabas’ backpack, the DA said.
He was charged with assault, possession of burglar’s tools and attempted theft, the DA said.
