Holy Cross Remembers 9/11

Flushing’s Holy Cross High School lost 16 alumni, as well as Father Francis E. Grogan, CSC, teacher and Chaplain at Holy Cross from 1965-1968, in the attacks on 9/11.
To commemorate those lives cut short, Theresa Mullan, mother of Michael D. Mullan, class of 1985, who died in 9/11, read the names of Father Grogan and all 16 deceased alumni after the entire school observed a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., the time the first plane hit the World Trade Center.
Mullan founded the Michael D. Mullan ’85 Memorial Firefighter Award at Holy Cross High School in September 1995 in memory of her son. The scholarship is awarded to a student in the spring of his freshman year, begins in his sophomore year and follows through to senior year.
Jalen McCray, sophomore, is the current recipient of this award.
