Star of Queens: Chrissy Voskerichian

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: For the past four years, Chrissy Voskerichian has been the president of the 109th Precinct Community Council, an organization with many members who care about the needs of Flushing, Queensboro Hill, College Point, Malba, Whitestone, Beechhurst and Bay Terrace communities. She is also the founding member and co-president of the Station Road Civic Association, a group in their sixth year and with over 200 families involved.

PERSONAL: Voskerichian has lived in Flushing her whole life. She’s 26 years married with two children. She enjoys spending time with her family, being in New York City and cooking Greek food (crab cakes are her specialty).

OCCUPATION: After spending 30 years as the director of sales for a telecommunications firm, Voskerichian became the chief of staff for Councilmember Dan Halloran in 2009. Today, she works primarily in her volunteer roles.

BIGGEST CHALLENGE: “Trying to find the time to do all the things I’d like to do between the civics. We have so many initiatives that we want to get done, but we have to find the time to get them done.”

FAVORITE MEMORY: “It has to be my children and watching them grow. They are 20 and 25 years old now and they have grown up to be responsible, caring adults. It’s really all about my children.”

INSPIRATION: “My inspiration is the passion I have for my community. It’s the impact we make, the smiles we bring to children’s faces, getting people involved and creating a sense of community. When I grew up, you knew everybody on the block. I want to keep that going strong. It’s about getting people out, giving them a place to go, making friends and sharing information. The friendships have been remarkable.” – Bob Doda
