LORENE J. BARONE of Jefferson, N.Y., formerly of Ridgewood, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the age of 92. She was the wife of the late Saverio J. “Jim”, the loving mother of the late S. Peter and his wife Lois of Bartlett, Ill., Stephen and his wife Janet of Queens and Carolyn Shannon and her husband Michael of Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.; cherished grandmother of Samantha and Stephanie; sister of Betty Blackmon of Pensacola, Fla., Peggy Haynes of Columbus, Ms., and Jo Christopher also of Columbus. She is also survived by Jayne Sabbagh, who is like a daughter, and her husband George and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
While residing in Ridgewood, she was active in the Ladies Guild of St. Matthias Church. After moving to Jefferson, she became involved in the community and helped to establish the Jefferson Community Center. A long time greeter at Sacred Heart Church in Stamford, she will be missed by all who knew her.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Monday, February 6, at Sacred Heart Church in Stamford, followed by interment in Saint Mary of the Snow Cemetery, Saugerties, N.Y.
JOSEFINA BURGOS died on Thursday, February 2, at the age of 94. She was the wife of the late Heriberto, loving mother of Lourdes LaPolla, mother-in-law of John, cherished grandmother of Bill Sawtelle, Dustin Jude Sawtelle, Jessica Rose Jackson, Michael John LaPolla and Rachael LaPolla, great-grandmother of Emily Rose and dear sister of Maria Elena Guerrero, Lydia and Francesco. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Saturday, February 4, at St. Mary’s Church, Woodside, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, under the direction of Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Ave., Maspeth.
JOHN CACIOLA died on Friday, February 3, in Astoria at the age of 83. He was the beloved husband of Marie, loving father of Joan Turley, Mariane Todaro and Joseph, fatherin law of Robert and Joan, cherished grandfather of Zachariah, Noah, Matthew, Christopher, Daniel, Joseph Jr., Jonathan and Jacob, great-grandfather of Keegan and Kaylen and dear brother of Camille Cataneo. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Caciola was also a U.S. Navy veteran. Services were offered on Wednesday, February 8, at Astoria Christian Church, Astoria by Pastor Dan Inverso, followed by entombment at St. Michael’s Cemetery, East Elmhurst, under the direction of Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Ave., Maspeth.
JOHN L. SCHAUBECK, formerly of Middle Village, died suddenly on Monday, January 30, at the age of 54. He was the beloved son of Constance Schaubeck, beloved husband of Nancy, loving father of John Paul, Nicholas, Kristin, Richard and Victoria and dear brother of Richard, Michael, Margaret and Patricia. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Saturday, February 4, at Mary’s Nativity Church, Flushing.
ELVIA MALAVER of Astoria died on Wednesday, February 1, at the age of 99. A native of Macheta, Colombia, she was the wife of the late Gabriel and devoted mother of Gabriel Malaver. She is also survived by one grandchild and three greatgrandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Astoria, followed by interment at St. Michael’s Cemetery, East Elmhurst, under the direction of Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Ave., Ridgewood.
TIMOTHY J. RAFULOWITZ of Jamaica died on Wednesday, February 1, at the age of 33. A native of Brooklyn, he was the loving son of Sam Rafulowitz and Margaret Crosby, dear brother of Robert Rafulowitz and Sam Rafulowitz, dearest grandson of the late Ruth and Sam Rafulowitz and Robert and Mildred Crosby and loving nephew of Phyllis Texeria, Barbara Frosch, Madeline Travers, Judy Barnes and Frank Stark. Services were offered at Morton Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Ave., Ridgewood, by Rev. Michael Ross, followed by interment at Linden Hill Cemetery, Ridgewood.
