Firefighters went to great heights to put out a one-alarm fire that ignited inside a seven-story apartment house in Elmhurst last Saturday afternoon, Feb. 18, FDNY sources said. Reportedly, the blaze broke out at around 1:10 p.m. on the fourthfloor of the high-rise on Hampton Street at Whitney Avenue. Among the units that responded to the scene (as listed in numerical order) were Engine companies 287, 289, 292 and 307; Ladder companies 136 and 138; Squad Co. 288; Rescue 4 and Battalions 45 and 49-under the direction of Division 14-along with the 110th Precinct and EMS units. There were no reported injuries. One hose line was used by firefighters to extinguish the blaze, according to a Fire Department source.
