Say Glendale Duo Hit Close To Home

Two Glendale men were literally caught red-handed by police as they allegedly scrawled graffiti onto a neighborhood business early last Saturday morning, Feb. 25, it was reported.

Law enforcement sources identified the alleged vandals as Steven Garcia, 24, and Jerry M. Sclafani, 22, both residents of 66th Street in Glendale.

According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, Garcia and Sclafani were spotted allegedly spray-painting the front security gate of a business located on Myrtle Avenue at 66th Street at around 3:40 a.m. last Saturday.

Members of the 104th Precinct re- sponded to the scene and stopped the two suspects near the location. Upon inspection, P.O. Sean McCarren observed a red and black spray-painted design on the gate which was wet to the touch.

According to the criminal complaint, the officer recovered a black bag near the scene which contained a can of black paint and a can of red spray paint.

During questioning, police said, Garcia was found to have red paint on his hand.

Garcia and Sclafani were taken into custody by Officer McCarren and charged with making graffiti and possession of graffiti instruments, law enforcement sources said.

Both suspects were arraigned later last Saturday in Queens Criminal Court before Judge John Zoll, who released them on their own recognizance. They are scheduled to return to court on Apr. 12.
