Bushwick Man Fingered For Bank Heists

Detectives collared a Bushwick man last Wednesday, Mar. 28, on charges that he allegedly tried to rob five banks in Forest Hills, Rego Park, Maspeth, Sunnyside and Jamaica in a sixweek period earlier this year, law enforcement sources said.

The suspected bandit, identified as Sidney Williams of Bushwick.

Sidney Williams 43, of Knickerbocker Avenue, was booked on five counts of third-degree robbery for the capers, in which he reportedly tried to obtain cash by slipping demand notes to tellers.

According to police, Williams was allegedly successful in getting money in three of the bids, but walked away empty-handed in the other incidents.

Law enforcement sources stated that the first robbery occurred at 10:15 a.m. on the morning of Feb. 3, when the suspect swiped currency from a Chase bank located at 95-38 Queens Blvd. in Rego Park.

Nearly two weeks later, police said, Williams was allegedly unsuccessful in taking cash from a Chase bank located at 47-11 Queens Blvd. in Sunnyside at 2:55 p.m. on Valentine’s Day afternoon, Feb. 14.

The suspect reportedly failed a second time in his bid to grab bucks from a Chase bank at 104-17 Queens Blvd. in Forest Hills at 9:05 a.m. on the morning of Feb. 23.

One week later, authorities noted, Williams allegedly managed to get cash during a heist of a Capital One Bank located at 146-21 Jamaica Ave. in Jamaica at 3:30 p.m. on Mar. 1.

Finally, police said, the suspect allegedly paid a visit to the Chase bank at 66-02 Grand Ave. in Maspeth at 11:25 a.m. on the morning of Mar. 15 and stole an undetermined amount of cash.

According to court records, Williams was arraigned last Thursday in Queens Criminal Court before Judge Martin Yavinsky, who ordered him held without bail. He is scheduled to return to court on Apr. 13.
