Sharp Find In a Stolen Car

Cops Grab Knives, Pot In Traffic Stop

Several knives and bags of marijuana were found by 104th Precinct officers inside of a reportedly stolen vehicle stopped at a Ridgewood intersection last Saturday afternoon, Aug. 25.

The three occupants in the car, identified as Ridgewood residents Hector Colon, 21, of Grove Street and Seth Torres-Soto, 22, of Grandview Avenue and Brooklyn resident Adrian Cevallos, 21, of St. John’s Place, were taken into custody by police at the location.

According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, the incident took place at around 5:10 p.m. at the corner of Metropolitan and Forest avenues.

Reportedly, P.O. Nicholas Cadavid of the 104th Precinct was driving his patrol cruiser northbound on Forest Avenue when he approached a Dodge car driven by Torres-Soto, with Cevallos riding in the front passenger seat and Colon seated in the rear.

Through the use of a license plate reader equipped within the patrol car, law enforcement sources said, Cadavid was informed that the Dodge had been reported stolen and stopped the car at the intersection.

Upon approaching the vehicle, authorities noted, the officer spotted four knives, each with blades longer than four inches, lying on the rear seat next to Colon.

A further inspection of the car by police reportedly led to the discovery of five plastic bags containing quantities of marijuana which were located in the central console of the vehicle and a backpack.

Torres-Soto, Colon and Cevallos were each variously charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, criminal possession of a weapon, unauthorized use of a vehicle, authorities stated.

According to court records, all three were arraigned the following day, Sunday, Aug. 26, in Queens Criminal Court before Judge Pauline Mullings and released on their own recognizance. They are scheduled to return to court on Sept. 24.
