KEW GARDENS — The FDNY successfully removed a construction worker from a muddy trench about three hours after he fell several stories in Kew Gardens, a spokesman for the FDNY said.

The man was in stable condition and being taken in an ambulance to Jamaica Hospital, according to the FDNY.

At about 4:50 p.m. at a construction site near the corner of 83rd Avenue and Abingdon Road, the worker plunged between 18 to 25 feet into the hole, according to the FDNY and the city Department of Buildings, and at one point, the man was up to his waist in mud, officials said.
