An armed robbery suspect was shot by a Nassau County police officer in Jamaica Estates Sunday evening after four plainclothes cops tried to apprehend the 21-year-old, who allegedly crushed one of the officers between two cars while attempting to flee, Nassau County police said.
Nassau County Bureau of Special Operations Officers located Muhammad Ali, who was wanted in connection with an armed robbery in Hicksville, L.I., earlier in the week, in front of 178-10 Wexford Terrace at 4:40 p.m., authorities said.
After the officers identified themselves and displayed their police shields, they began approaching a vehicle that Ali was inside when he allegedly tried to get away, pinning one of the cops between two cars, authorities said.
Another officer in the group then shot Ali in the chest, Nassau police and the NYPD said.
Ali was taken to Jamaica Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries, and the officer, whose legs were injured, was brought to North Shore Hospital in Manhasset, according to the NYPD and Nassau Police Department.
The extent of the officer’s injuries was unknown, a spokesman for the Nassau County PD said.
Charges against Ali were pending, and the investigation into the police-involved shooting was ongoing, Nassau police said.
