Rail Work Headache

Major Weekend Disruptions On J & M Lines

Before the MTA extends M train weekend shuttle service to Manhattan next month, commuters will endure four weekends of service disruptions on both the J and M lines through Bushwick, Middle Village, Ridgewood and Williamsburg.

J trains will not operate between Marcy Avenue and Broadway Junction-and M trains will not run normal shuttle service between Metropolitan Avenue-Middle Village and Myrtle Avenue-Broadway-this weekend, from 3:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3, until 10 p.m. Sunday, May 4.

According to the MTA’s website, the disruptions will be repeated each weekend in May through Memorial Day, Monday, May 26. All disruptions are weather permitting; check the MTA’s website, www.mta.info, for updates.

Reportedly, the shutdowns are needed as the MTA conducts switch replacement in preparation for the extension of weekend M shuttle trains, which terminate at Myrtle Avenue-Broadway, to Essex Street- Delancey Street in Manhattan.

As reported in last week’s Times Newsweekly, the extension is scheduled to take effect on Sunday, June 8.

Free shuttle buses will operate in place of J trains between Broadway Junction and Marcy Avenue. J trains will operate in two sections: between Jamaica Center and Broadway Junction and between Marcy Avenue and Chambers Street.

Shuttle buses will also replace the M train shuttle and provide supplemental service to the Marcy Avenue J train station.

Commuters can transfer between the J train shuttle buses and the J train at either Broadway Junction or Marcy Avenue. The A train is also available at Broadway Junction as an alternate to and from Manhattan.

M train customers can transfer from shuttle buses to the L train at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues for service to and from Manhattan.

The shuttle buses will stop at all affected stations as follows:
