KONRADA. SAMIDE, a resident
of Memory Care of Naples in
Naples, Fla., passed away
peacefully in the early hours of
Saturday, October 18, at the age of
89 after a brief struggle with
cancer.
Born March 6, 1925, in Altlag,
Yugoslavia, in the province of
Gottschee, present day Starilog, Slovenia, Konrad was the youngest
son of Johann and Josefa Tschinkel Samide. He was raised in a home
filled with music and was an accomplished accordion player.
He began his career as a trained bookkeeper in Salzburg, Austria,
where his children were born. He and his family moved to Ridgewood,
N.Y. in 1955, where he worked as an assistant manager at Bohack
grocery followed by accounting and trailer driver positions with major
area breweries including Rheingold and Schaeffer. With his wife, Ida
Staltzer Samide, he also managed their Ridgewood rental property and
tenants.
Konrad enjoyed their Gottscheer Club in Ridgewood and keeping
alive traditions of culture and music as part of the Men’s Choir. The
family was a member of Ridgewood’s St. Aloysius and Miraculous
Medal parishes.
In 2007, Konrad and Ida moved to Windham Falls Independent
Living in Groton, Conn. In February 2014, they moved to Memory
Care of Naples, an assisted living facility.
Konrad is survived by Ida, his wife of 64 years; daughter Linda
Foith of Laxenburg, Austria, and her husband Walter; son Gerhard
Samide of Naples, Fla. and Waterford, Conn., and his wife, Karen
Esposito; and grandsons Michael and Peter Foith of Vienna, Austria.
He was predeceased by his parents and eight siblings.
There will be a celebration of his life at a later date.

RUTH E. REMENAR died on Saturday, October 18, at the age of
93. She was the wife of the late Augustin Remenar. Services will be
offered at graveside today, Thursday, October 23, at noon at St.
Stephen’s Cemetery, Warwick, N.Y., under the direction of Papavero
Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Ave., Maspeth.

ABIUD G. CASTRO of Brooklyn died on Sunday, October 19, at the
age of 70. A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, he was the beloved
husband of Giovanna, devoted father of Marilu Castro, James Castro
and Lila Castro and dear brother of Verena Castro. He is also survived
by 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian
Burial was offered at St. Martin of Tours Church, Bushwick, followed
by interment at Cypress Hills Cemetery, under the direction of Morton
Funeral Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663 Grandview Ave., Ridgewood.

THOMAS BISHOK died on Saturday, October 18, at the age of 90.
He was the husband of the late Leona Bishok, loving father of Eileen
Bishok and Joyce Leonard, father-in-law of Thomas and cherished
grandfather of Christopher, Joseph, James and Erica. He was a U.S.
Army veteran who served during World War II. A Mass of Christian
Burial was offered on Wednesday, October 22, at St. Adalbert’s
Church, Elmhurst, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery,
Woodside, under the direction of Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27
Grand Ave., Maspeth.

FRANCES LETTIERI died on Thursday, October 16, at the age of
88. She was a cherished aunt and great-aunt. Services were offered
on Saturday, October 18, at Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand
Ave., Maspeth, followed by interment at St. John Cemetery, Middle
Village.

TRAJAN COLOKA of Ridgewood died on Wednesday, October
15, at the age of 71. A native of Nikolinci, Yugoslavia, he was the
beloved husband of Silvia, devoted father of Silvai Marta and
Rodika Kump, loving son of Trajan Coloka and Maria Coloka and
dear brother of Maria Turkoanje. Services were offered at Descent
of the Holy Spirit Romanian Orthodox Church, Ridgewood, by Rev.
Viorel Dimitrescu, followed by interment at All Faiths Cemetery,
Middle Village, under the direction of Morton Funeral

15, at the age of 86. A native of Brooklyn, he was the father of John

FRANK A. PUGLISI of Ridgewood died on Tuesday, October 14,
at the age of 89. A World War II veteran, he was the husband of the
late Theresa and devoted father of Frank and William. A Mass of

followed by interment at the Cemetery of the Evergreens, Brooklyn,

MARGIE LABATE died on Tuesday, October 14, at the age of 97.
She was the wife of the late John Labate, loving mother of Maria
Boyd, Guy Labate and the late Vera Petrizzi, mother-in-law of
George and Peppy and cherished grandmother of seven, greatgrandmother of 12 and great-great-grandmother of one. A Mass of
Christian Burial was offered on Saturday, October 18, at St.

age of 73. He was the beloved husband of Benedetta Karakatsanis,
loving father of Thomas Karakatsanis and Edna Cardinale, father-inlaw of Melanie and Raymond, cherished grandfather of Christian,
Nicholas, Jessica, Shannon and Kristina and dear brother of
Christine, Lula and Stella. A Divine Liturgy was offered on Friday,
