The Manhattan-bound tube of the Queens Midtown Tunnel will be closed during weekday overnight hours for eight weeks starting this coming Monday, the MTA announced.
The closures will take place nightly from 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday from Aug. 31. On Fridays, the closures will take place from 11 p.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday.
According to the transit agency, the tube shutdown is for Sandy restoration work, and the other tube will still have two-way traffic.
The north tube closures will be suspended for Labor Day weekend and other upcoming holidays.
Drivers should allow extra time and use an alternate route if possible.
