Attack on Jackson Heights transgender woman possible hate crime: NYPD

Police are searching for a man in connection to a possible hate crime that occurred in Jackson Heights on Sunday morning.

Authorities are searching for a suspect who viciously attacked a man who was dressed as a woman while walking home in Jackson Heights on Sunday morning.

Police did not specifically identify the victim as transgender, only saying that the man was dressed in women’s clothing.

The NYPD said the attack, which occurred at 4 a.m., is being investigated as a possible hate crime. The 35-year-old victim was attacked at 93rd Street between Elmhurst and Roosevelt avenues.

The suspect, described as a Hispanic male between the ages of 30 and 35 and about 210 pounds, hit the victim in the head and face before throwing the individual to the ground and slamming the victim into the curb.

Police said the suspect, who fled the scene after the attack, was last seen wearing a black hoodie and dark pants.

The victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital and is currently in critical condition, according to authorities.
