Though Pokémon Go has been a source of joy for many, one Sunnyside man just lost his game because of it.
Evan Scribner was trying to catch ’em all when he traveled to Bushwick to see his ex-girlfriend, he told the New York Post. The app uses mapping software to allow users to catch Pokémon located nearby and records each location.
His girlfriend looked at his phone and saw that he caught a Pokémon in Bushwick.
“She saw that I had caught a Pokémon while at my ex’s house,” Scribner told the New York Post.
His girlfriend confronted Scribner about his trip and when he couldn’t provide her with an excuse, she stopped speaking to him.
“She found out last night at my house and hasn’t contacted me since then,” Scribner told the paper.
The augmented reality app was released last week and has led to some weird encounters. On July 7, a Brooklyn man unknowingly walked into a narcotics arrest at a Bedford-Stuyvesant park. Police stopped him and checked his ID before letting him go.
Users have also been flooding the 9/11 Memorial in Manhattan to catch the creatures, and some New Yorkers say the memorial should be off limits for the app.
The game resulted in a 37 percent spike in Nintendo’s stock, which added more than $7 million to the company’s market value, according to Forbes.
