If you take a stroll through Jackson Heights, you’re bound to see a number of pre-war apartment buildings that are pretty similar in appearance; the apartments are spread out over several buildings with a courtyard within the complex.
These apartment buildings are starting to get a makeover that is long overdue. Washington Plaza, located at 35th Avenue and 74th Street, has recently finished renovating nearly 200 units and is closing on these upgraded living spaces.
Originally built in 1941, the building was designed by Sylvan Bien, best known for his design for the Carlyle Hotel. The apartments keep many of the old-school decorative details of the pre-war styles but add a modern twist with open kitchens, high-end appliances and sharp, sleek finishes.
There are many new amenities available at Washington Plaza, including a fitness center, laundry room, gatehouse entry and access to a private garden, which as also seen an upgrade with the new renovation.
The prices on the new apartments range from $395,000 for a 700-square-foot one-bedroom, to $1.1 million for an 1,800-square-foot four-bedroom.
