Ambulance fatally strikes an elderly man walking on the Cross Island Parkway: cops

A man was struck and killed by an ambulance as he apparently attempted to walk across the Cross Island Parkway in Queens Village last night, police said.

At 8:13 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, police responded to a 911 call of a man who was struck by a vehicle on the southbound Cross Island Parkway near 107th Avenue. Upon arrival, the officers saw EMS personnel providing aid to the 89-year-old victim.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was attempting to cross the parkway when he was struck by an FDNY ambulance. The personnel inside the ambulance stopped and immediately provided assistance to the victim.

The victim was transported to North Shore Hospital in Manhasset, where he was pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

No charges have been filed, and an investigation is ongoing.
