Cane-carrying crook opens unlocked car door in Jackson Heights and steals $1,500: cops

Police are looking for an elderly man who stumbled upon an unlocked car in Jackson Heights and stole a wad of cash last month.

On Feb. 24 at about 6 p.m., the suspect, who uses a cane, opened the door of a parked car at Northern Boulevard and 74th Street, police said. Inside the vehicle, he found $1,500 and pocketed the money. He fled the location on foot and was observed on surveillance cameras. Police could not confirm the vehicle make or model.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 60s with short brown hair. He was last seen wearing black jeans, a blue waist length jacket, a blue hooded jacket, grey shoes and holding a walking cane.
