UPDATE: Cops arrest man who posed as officer at Astoria preschool to ask for money

Police have arrested a man who pretended to be a police officer in order to solicit money from an Astoria preschool last month.

John Williams,59, entered New Milestone Pre-school at 27-18 Hoyt Ave. on Feb. 28 at about 11:50 a.m. He displayed an NYPD identification card and attempted to ask for money for an unknown charity.

Police also found that on Jan. 28 at 4:50 p.m. Williams knocked on a private residence at 59th Ave. and displayed an NYPD ID card while asking for donations.

Williams, who is from Flushing, was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal impersonation and two counts of fraudulent accosting.
