By Bill Parry

A retired city correction officer from Woodside is awaiting charges and arraignment in the shooting of his estranged wife Sunday night, the Queens district attorney’s office said Monday.

Victor Guzman, 54, allegedly shot and wounded his unidentified 51-year-old wife in the chest just before 8 p.m. at their home on 59th Street near Laurel Hill Boulevard and left her bleeding on the floor, according to the NYPD.

She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center for injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.

Guzman was arrested a short time later walking on 60th Street near Queens Boulevard, according to an NYPD spokesman. Investigators recovered a gun, the spokesman said.
