Customers at LaGuardia Airport that use for-hire vehicles may have to start allotting more time to make it out of the airport after their flight.

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey released a statement on April 5 that pick-up location for passengers using for-hire vehicles will be moved to a parking lot in Terminal B. This applies to app-based services such as Uber, Lyft, Gett, Via, Juno and private car services, limos, and livery cabs.

This new pick-up lot, which is labeled as the “Car Services, App-Based Rides & Black Car Pick-Up Area,” is 10 minute walk or a shuttle ride away from the Central Terminal. Yellow taxi cabs are not effected by this change, and those using app-based services will still be able to make drop-offs in the departure areas of the airport.

“The new FHV pick up location is one of a continuing series of steps airport officials are taking to reduce potential traffic congestion on airport roadways during the ongoing modernization of LaGuardia Airport.” says the Port Authority.

With an estimated 800,000 passengers to fly out over the Easter and Passover holidays, the Port Authority is urging passengers to use public transportation to get to LaGuardia if possible. Options for public transportation include the Q70 bus, the 7 train and LIRR in Woodside and the E, F, M, R and 7 trains in Jackson Heights.

For those who choose to not use public transportation, the Port Authority recommends using Waze, a free crowdsourced traffic and navigation app that the Port Authority will be updating in real time with traffic incidents, lanes closures and more.
