UPDATED Dec. 6, 10:30 a.m.

Detectives picked up an Elmhurst man this week accused of sexually assaulting a female passenger on board a 7 train in Long Island City last month.

John F. Anturi, 42, of Ithaca Street was arrested on Dec. 5 for the incident that took place at 4:15 p.m. on Nov. 15 on a Flushing-bound 7 train approaching the Court Square stop.

According to authorities, Anturi was standing directly behind the 28-year-old woman when he allegedly began grinding against her backside. When the woman attempted to get off the train, police said, Anturi allegedly grabbed the victim’s buttocks.

Anturi allegedly exited at Court Square, but not before the woman snapped images of him with her cellphone, police said. The suspect boarded the next Flushing-bound 7 train to arrive at Court Square. The victim sent images of him to police.

Following an investigation, Anturi was charged with forcible touching and sexual abuse.

According to court records, Anturi was released on $500 cash bail, but must return to court on Dec. 8.
