The colors of the rainbow cut through an otherwise dreary spring day in Jackson Heights on Sunday as thousands took part in the Queens Pride Parade and Festival.
The June 3 celebration of love and freedom brought together the LGBT community, local elected officials, community groups, entertainers and others who marched along 37th Avenue from 89th to 75th Streets.
Queens Borough President Melinda Katz and civic activist Elijah Betts served as the parade’s grand marshals. The Queens Lesbian and Gay Pride Committee, as in past years, sponsored the festivities.
Sunday’s parade led into the Queens Pride Festival along 75th Street, which included performances by Ultra Naté, part of the dance music group Stars On 54.
