By Robert Pozarycki

Smoke inhalation claimed the life of a Rego Park woman after a fire broke out inside an apartment building late Saturday night, law enforcement sources reported.

Police said the blaze ignited Jan. 12 at about 11:40 p.m. on the fifth floor of the Austin Towers building located at 87-30 62nd Ave.

Firefighters who responded to the scene found Anna Latek, 51, inside a fifth-floor apartment unit suffering from smoke inhalation, according to authorities. Firefighters pulled her from the home and transferred her to paramedics, who rushed her to Elmhurst Hospital, where she died.

Three other residents of the apartment house were also rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital in stable condition after suffering smoke inhalation, police said.

Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control. FDNY Marshals were looking into the cause of the blaze.
