A trail of blood led cops to the Queens apartment where a 78-year-old woman was violently murdered by her emotionally disturbed son on Friday, police sources reported.

David Galicia, 48, is accused of brutally killing Camelita Cabansag, 78, inside the apartment they shared on 41st Avenue near 68th Street in Woodside sometime before 8 a.m. on April 24.

Officers from the 108th Precinct were called to the location after receiving a 911 call about an unconscious woman.

Upon arriving at the seven-story apartment house, a source familiar with the investigation said, they found a trail of blood that led up to Cabansag’s fourth-floor apartment. They knocked on the door, and Galicia — who was said to be covered in blood — allegedly responded.

Seconds later, the source said, Galicia walked over to his mother and laid atop her body. Cops said Cabansag suffered severe head trauma and cuts to her body.

Two knives were found on the floor next to her, the source said.

Responding paramedics pronounced Cabansag dead at the scene. Her body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Galicia, meanwhile, was found to have stab wounds to his chest and body. Paramedics rushed him to Elmhurst Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Cops had classified him as being emotionally disturbed.

The motive for the murder remained unclear, a source familiar with the investigation said.

Following questioning on Friday, detectives charged Galicia with murder, criminal mischief and criminal possession of a weapon.
