Councilman Robert Holden in collaboration with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will host a free rain barrel giveaway in Middle Village on Saturday, August 12.
The DEP will distribute rain barrels at Juniper Valley Park, located at 80th Street between Juniper Boulevard North and Juniper Boulevard South, from 10 a.m. to noon. The event is first-come, first-served, while supplies last. Proof of residence in the councilman’s district is required.
Holden also held a rain barrel giveaway at Frank Principe Park in Maspeth last weekend on Saturday, July 22.

According to the DEP, rain barrels are connected directly to a home’s gutter or downspout to capture and store the rainwater that falls from the roof. Rain barrels should only be used for non-drinking purposes like gardening and cleaning. During the winter, barrels should be removed from downspouts to avoid freezing and damage.
Residents living in the councilman’s district are encouraged to email the district office directly at District30@council.nyc.gov or call (718) 366-3900. Only one rain barrel is given per household.
Councilman Holden serves the neighborhoods of Glendale, Maspeth, Middle Village, Ridgewood, Woodhaven, and Woodside.
