The lobby of a three-story Queens Village building partially collapsed Wednesday, prompting a rapid response from authorities and contractors.
The collapse took place at 93-43 222nd St., with the FDNY called to the building at around 7:35 a.m. Despite the structural damage, there were no reported injuries.
The FDNY discovered that the staircase landing adjacent to the front door had collapsed about 2 feet into the crawl space, according to the Department of Buildings.
According to a report from CBS News, numerous tenants were forced to exit the building via fire escapes located at the uppermost level of the three-story building. Several of the 14 families who lived there have now been moved to nearby shelters.
The incident underscores the ongoing concerns surrounding building safety. Authorities say they will maintain close monitoring of the building to ensure that appropriate repairs and safety measures are implemented promptly, aiming to safeguard the well-being of residents and prevent further incidents.
