Man burglarizes kosher restaurant on Union Turnpike: NYPD

Police from the 107th Precinct in Fresh Meadows are still looking for a burglar who broke into a kosher steakhouse on Union Turnpike in mid-December and made off with nearly $5,000 in cash.

The suspect targeted the Union Bistro at 190-11 Union Tpke. on the morning of Monday, Dec. 18, prying open a rear door at around 8:20 a.m., police said. Once inside, the unidentified man removed $4,800 in cash, and merchandise valued at $300. The burglar then fled the location on foot in an unknown direction.

There were no injuries reported during the incident.

The NYPD released surveillance images of the suspect on Friday and described him as having a dark complexion, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and around 140 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hooded winter jacket with a black face covering, black pants, black sneakers, black gloves and he was carrying a large black garbage bag that he used to carry the stolen merchandise.

Through New Year’s Eve, the 107th Precinct reported 262 burglaries in 2023, 22 more than the 240 reported in 2022, an increase of 9.2%, according to the most recent CompStat report.
