QNS Weekender: Six things to do in Queens this weekend

The city of Queens has plenty of things to do over the winter, and this weekend is no exception. Whether it’s at a park, show or it’s just a great place to eat and relax, there is always something for everyone.

 

Friday, Jan. 19

 

Alley Pond Park Forest Restoration

Come volunteer at Alley Pond Park to help rebuild and restore the local ecosystem and learn about the importance of topics such as environmental conservation and species diversity. (Adventure Course Parking Lot, Union Turnpike, Oakland Gardens. 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Admission: Free)

Jr. Knicks Basketball Clinic at Sorrentino Recreation Center (Ages: 12-14 coed)

Kids have the opportunity to learn about the fundamentals of basketball while also getting the chance to compete in league play. This program is designed to help build positive experiences involving the sport of basketball. (Gymnasium in Sorrentino Recreation Center,
18-48 Carnaga Ave., Far Rockaway. 4-6 p.m. Admission: Free)

Saturday, Jan. 20

 

Zumba Class at Al Oerter Recreation Center

Take a class to learn about Zumba, a unique form of exercise that uses Latin and dance music to create a dynamic atmosphere. Zumba mainly emphasizes working on cardio. (Al Oerter Recreation Center, 131-40 Fowler Ave., Flushing. 9-10 a.m. Admission: Free)

Doggie Day Hike

Take a scenic walk with your four-legged friend through Forest Park. (Myrtle Avenue and Park Lane South, Richmond Hill. 10-11:30 a.m. Admission: Free)

 

Sunday, Jan. 21

 

Traditional Music and Dance of Korea

Enjoy a show about Korean culture through the art of music and dance provided by the Korean Traditional Music Dance Center, an affiliate to the Bayside Historical Society. This show is part of Bayside Historical Society’s Passport Concert Series. (Bayside Castle, 208 Totten Ave., Bayside. 3-4:30 p.m. Admission: $10 for BHS members, $15 for non-BHS members)

Gamehaus Sundays

Come spend your Sunday at the Gamehaus restaurant, which offers live sports (specifically NFL Sunday Ticket) on Sundays. It’s a great way for anyone to get their sports fix and enjoy food from one of the best sports bars in New York City. (Gamehaus NY, 5-14 51st Ave., Long Island City. 12-11:00 p.m. Admission: Free with advanced reservation).
