Ridgewood is expanding its food shopping landscape with the opening of a new Met Fresh Supermarket.

The new store, located at 67-09 Fresh Pond Rd., will have its grand opening on Friday, May 24, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 9:30 a.m. It is owned and operated by the Hamdan family, who already have seven other grocery ventures across New York.

The 14,000-square-foot space formerly housed a Capital One Bank branch, which closed last year. Met Fresh has committed to the neighborhood with a 20-year lease, signaling a long-term investment in the community.

Met Fresh Supermarket promises a comprehensive shopping experience with a variety of departments, including grocery, imported goods, produce, dairy, frozen foods and organic and plant-based options. Additionally, the store will feature a fresh deli, a juice bar, coffee and espresso services and a hot food bar complete with a carving station. Patrons can also look forward to a large beer section, fresh flowers and more. The supermarket also offers free parking for their customers just around the corner.

The opening of the supermarket is set to bolster local employment by creating 30 new jobs, with a focus on hiring residents from the surrounding area.

“We are thrilled to bring Met Fresh to Ridgewood and serve the community with a wide selection of products and fresh food options,” Danny Hamdan, co-owner of the new supermarket, shared with QNS. “Our goal is to provide something for everyone and create a welcoming atmosphere for all our customers.”

The grand opening celebration will continue throughout the weekend, with free demos, raffles and giveaways planned. The weekend-long celebration will feature sales across all departments and a live DJ providing music. Families can also look forward to an array of activities, including bounce houses, cotton candy, popcorn, face painting, and balloon twisting, making it a fun event for the entire community.
