After nearly a decade of delays, PS 31 The Bayside School in Bayside has finally completed its long-awaited renovations.
The school located at 211-45 46th Rd., marked the milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Jan. 12, celebrating the long-overdue improvements that had left the building shrouded in scaffolding for years.
Council Member Vickie Paladino, who represents District 19 in Northeast Queens, highlighted the achievement in her monthly newsletter, recalling her first visit to PS 31 in 2021 after being elected. At the time, she noticed the school hidden behind scaffolding and dusty windows, prompting concerns about the stalled construction.
After hearing from parents and staff members advocating for the project’s completion, Paladino made it a top priority to push for the long-delayed renovations to finally be finished.
“This school quickly became a top priority,” wrote the Council Member via her newsletter. “I had seen firsthand what the students and faculty were dealing with on top of the faculty and parents coming into my office requesting we advocate for the completion of their school.
Through continuous effort from her office and working alongside PS 31’s Principal Graybow and their staff, they finally completed the building’s construction and enjoyed a celebration at the school on Jan.12.
“This was a tremendous success for the community, and it absolutely would not have happened without the support and advocation of Principal Graybow, the custodial staff, and the entire school community,” wrote the Council Member. “I look forward to many more celebrations at PS 31 and to seeing it flourish.”
