Nearly half a million people who ride the train on Saturday and Sunday could be affected by weekend closures between Manhattan and Queens that begin this weekend and extend until March 26.

The line was briefly halted again in the evening after workers removing debris ignited a pool of gasoline at about 9:30 p.m., authorities said.
