A motorcyclist died during the Wednesday afternoon rush after crashing into a box truck while crossing the Ed Koch-Queensboro Bridge from Long Island City to Manhattan.
According to police, at 5:28 p.m. on Oct. 10, officers from the 108th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a vehicle accident on the bridge.
Following a preliminary investigation, police determined that 26-year-old Kevin Santiago was riding his motorcycle westbound on the lower level of the span when he lost his balance and struck a box truck, which was also traveling westbound.
At this time, authorities said, it is unknown what caused Santiago to lose his balance.
EMS responded to the scene and rushed Santiago to Cornell Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
As police reported, the Manhattan-bound lower level of the bridge was completely shut down while police responded to and investigated the crash.
