Former Cardozo standout Melvin Robinson scored a season-high 24 points on 11-of-18 shooting in St. Peter's 104-85 loss to No. 10 Seton Hall Monday night. The 6-foot-5 sophomore forward added five rebounds and three assists in 36 minutes for the Peacocks.
St. Peter's freshman point guard Daryl Boykins out of Monsignor McClancy held his own against Pirates' super freshman Andre Barrett. The 6-foot-2 freshman guard had eight points, six assists and two rebounds and just one turnover in 25 minutes off the bench.
Another Cardozo alum, 6-foot-4 junior forward Charles Cranford led Northeastern with 20 points and 10 rebounds in the Huskies' 92-86 loss at Miami Saturday.
Former St. Francis Prep standout Drew Samuels had perhaps his best collegiate game to date, as the 6-foot-5 senior forward had 24 points and 14 rebounds in Marist's 71-69 overtime loss at Pittsburgh Saturday night.
Springfield Gardens alum Nashon McPherson, a 6-foot-4 senior guard had 11 points on 3-of-5 from three-point range, four assists and two rebounds as the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers defeated the Tennessee State Tigers, 90-66 Saturday.
Ohio State freshman Zack Williams out of Christ the King scored 16 points and grabbed four rebounds in the Buckeyes' 67-64 loss to Valparaiso in the Great Alaskan Shootout Saturday. The night before, in a 77-66 semifinal loss to Syracuse, the 6-foot-7 freshman had seven points in 19 minutes for Ohio State.
Another former Royal, Kason Mims, a former Christ the King standout, had eight points and two rebounds in 22 minutes as Quinnipiac defeated Howard, 93-86.
Uka Agbai continues to play strong in his sophomore year at Boston College. The 6-foot-8 sophomore forward from Archbishop Molloy scored a team-high 17 points to lead Boston College to an 81-52 win over Brown Saturday. The Queens Village native was 5-for-7 from the field and 7-for-9 from the free throw line and grabbed four rebounds for the Eagles.
Another former Stanner, Reggie Brown, had nine points on 2-of-4 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 from the line in Richmond's 86-70 win over Western Michigan Saturday.
In LIU's 59-54 win over Central Connecticut State Monday night, junior forward Keith Leslie from Astoria had eight points and two assists and LeFrak City native JaJa Bey added six points and four boards while former Forest Hills teammate Dawan Gary grabbed six rebounds for LIU.
In a 67-53 loss at Yale last Wednesday, Bey and Gary each scored eight points for the Blackbirds.
August Martin graduate Leon Piper, a 6-foot-6 senior forward, had a team-high 12 points to go along with nine rebounds and three assists in 37 minutes in Delaware State's 82-44 loss at Drake Monday.
LeFrak City resident Joel Suarez, a freshman point guard, had 12 points and two rebounds in 24 minutes as Hofstra beat Long Island rival Stony Brook, 72-60, Saturday.
Women's basketball
St. John's 73, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 63. Junior guard Rasheedah Brown scored a season-high 17 points and dished out six assists to lead the Red Storm to a 10-point win in the consolation game of the Cox Communications/Lady Rebel Shootout at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas Saturday.
St. John's (2-2) jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first four minutes over UAPB (0-3) and led 39-27 at the break. After the Golden Lions went on a 10-2 run at the start of the second half, senior Tynisha Myles and Brown combined to score 10 unanswered points for the Red Storm.
Brown, who has scored in double figures in each of St. John's four games, was 5-for-10 from the field and was named to the all-tournament team.
Myles finished with 14 points, 10 of which were in the second half. Freshman Sherri Brown added five points and a team-high six rebounds.
North Carolina-Charlotte 71, St. John's 68. The 49ers nailed seven straight free throws in the final 1:51, capping a 45-point second half effort in the opening game of the Cox Communications/Lady Rebel Shootout at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas Friday.
Myles led the way for the Red Storm with 15 points, including 9-for-9 from the free throw line. Brown had 12 points, all on three pointers and senior Katrina Johns added seven points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass.
After taking on St. Joseph (Pa.) in a game scheduled for Wednesday, the Red Storm are scheduled to return to action to face Old Dominion at Alumni Hall on Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
Clarion University 76, Queens College 58. Despite getting double-figure scoring from four players, the Lady Knights dropped their second game of the year Saturday in the consolation of the North Dakota State Tournament.
Freshman center Kerri Graham scored a team-high 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and grabbed five rebounds. Freshman guard Erin Dollard had 10 points and eight boards and senior forward Jill Kraft also had 10 points and five rebounds for Queens.
North Dakota State University 104, Queens College 42. Queens shot just 29 percent from the field in the opening round loss to North Dakota State, a finalist in the Division II tournament last year.
Kraft led the way for the Lady Knights with nine points and three steals.
Queens opens in its New York Collegiate Athletic Conference slate at Molloy College Sunday at 6 p.m.
