COLLEGE POINT — Four men were arrested Saturday after police allegedly found them illegally loading cases of fireworks from a 30-foot truck to a van, authorities said.
The men were allegedly found moving over $40,000 worth of explosives at the corner of 117th Street and 5th Avenue at 3:45 p.m., said police spokesman Detective Joe Cavitolo.
Two College Point men, James Cervino, 40, of 117-20 5th Ave. and Marco DeSena, 21, of 25-21 127th St., were arrested on charges of unlawfully dealing with dangerous fireworks, Cavitolo said. John and Paul DeGuardia, 42 and 34, of Yonkers were arrested on the same charges, Cavitolo said.
Members of the 109th Precinct’s narcotics squad also found a customer list with the four men, Cavitolo said.
3 arrested after woman, 27, robbed in Fresh Meadows
FRESH MEADOWS — A 27-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint by three men at the intersection of Utopia Parkway and 57th Avenue at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
The three men fled in a Toyota Corolla with the victim’s purse containing cash and credit cards, police said.
A description of the suspects was transmitted over police radio and the men were apprehended at 11 p.m. at the intersection of Francis Lewis Boulevard and Braddock Avenue by officers who spotted their vehicle, police said.
The suspects’ vehicle rear-ended a police car before the suspects were apprehended. Two police officers sustained minor injuries and were taken to Jamaica Hospital, police said.
Police arrested Darryl Elderidge, 20, of 114-21 211th St., Quentin Porter, of 32, 114-19 203th St., and Tyguon Feggins, 17, of Brooklyn on charges of robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
Police were investigating.
Driving school operator charged with forging official documents
RICHMOND HILL—The operator of a Richmond Hill driving school was charged with forging vehicle insurance cards and New York State Department of Motor Vehicles’ registration certificates, District Attorney Richard Brown said Monday.
Billy Fulmore, 56, of 105-66 130th St. was charged with forgery, criminal possession of a forged instrument and scheme to defraud and faces up to seven years in prison if convicted, the District Attorney said.
According to the criminal complaint, on Oct. 29, 2001, Fulmore fraudulently created on the driving school’s computer system three documents for a 1993 Ford Explorer: two insurance cards and a temporary certificate of registration. The vehicle was not insured, the complaint said.
On two occasions in 2002, the defendant also created insurance cards for vehicles that did not have insurance coverage, it said.
A team of NYPD detectives and state DMV investigators executed a search warrant at the school and seized various property, including computers, insurance cards and forged W-2 forms, the DA said.
Fulmore was arrested last Thursday at the A to Z Driving School on Liberty Avenue following a 10-month investigation conducted by officials from the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and detectives from the NYPD’s Auto Crime Division.
He was arraigned in Queens County Criminal Court in front of Judge Steven Paynter, who set bail at $25,000 and a return date for July 11.
Citibank in Queens Village burlarized after hours
QUEENS VILLAGE — An unknown perpetrator entered a Citibank office at 217-10 Jamaica Ave. through the basement early Sunday and took an undetermined amount of coins from the teller area, police said.
The incident occurred at 1:15 a.m. Sunday, police said.
Police reported no arrests and were investigating.
Jamaica man gets 11 years for sexual assaults
JAMAICA — A Jamaica man was sentenced last week to 11 years in prison for sexually assaulting his girlfriend’s two young daughters over a three-month period last year, said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.
John Morant, 23, of Jamaica, was sentenced in State Supreme Court in Kew Gardens last Thursday after pleading guilty to first-degree rape in May for raping and sodomizing the girls, ages 4 and 8, Brown said.
“The sentence is just punishment for this reprehensible crime,” Brown said in a statement. “The defendant, a sexual predator, shattered a family’s sanctity by preying upon two young girls, sexually assaulting them and stealing their innocence. His removal from society will help protect public safety.”
According to the charges, Morant assaulted the girls, who were his girlfriend’s daughters, between August and October 2001 in a bedroom in his girlfriend’s apartment. The children reported the attacks to their mother two days after the last attack, Brown said.
Later police and prosecutors helped the mother tape a telephone conversation with Morant in which he admitted the multiple sexual assaults against both girls, the district attorney said. He was arrested two days later.
Richmond Hill health aide stole from elderly woman: DA
RICHMOND HILL—A Richmond Hill home health aide was charged with bilking her 91-year-old patient out of more than $160,000, District Attorney Richard Brown said June 19..
Bibi Khan, 40, of 105-45 135th St., was charged with grand larceny, forgery and criminal posession of a forged instrumen. She faces up to 15 years in jail if convicted.
According to the charges, Khan allegedly wrote a total of 54 blank checks totaling $166,673 between Febraury 1999 and January 2002 and had the victim sign them. The defendant then negotiated the checks through three different banks in order to cash them, the DA’s office alleged.
The victim, of East Elmhurst, was recently diagnosed with dementia, Brown said.
Rockaway Park officers arrest suspect in sex abuse incident
ROCKAWAY PARK — Officers arrested a suspect Tuesday in connection with the isexual abuse a 12-year-old boy the afternoon of June 16, police said.
The incident took place at the boardwalk at Beach 116th Street, police said.
Sanitation worker arrested on drug possession charges
HAMMELS – A city sanitation worker was arrested on drug possession charges after he was stopped for a minor traffic violation, police said.
Joseph Flores, 39, was charged with possession of marijuana and criminal possession of a controlled substance June 12. Flores was stopped after he drove through a safety zone at 97th Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard in Hammels, police said.
During the traffic stop, Flores failed to produce a valid driver’s license, and police officers observed an alleged marijuana cigarette in the car’s ashtray, police said. The officers placed him under arrest and discovered that Flores was allegedly in possession of more marijuana and cocaine, police said.
Woman dies after fall from building in Hammels
HAMMELS – A 19-year-old woman was found dead last week after she apparently fell from the upper floor of a building, police said.
The woman was found unconscious at 81-00 Shore Front Parkway just before midnight on June 12, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and the medical examiner was to determine the cause of death.
The investigation was continuing, police said.
LIC cabbie injures pedestrians after losing control in Manhattan
MANHATTAN — A Queensbridge Houses resident injured several pedestrians after plowing his yellow cab into a crowded Manhattan sidewalk Saturday, police said.
Arthur Smalls, 52, of Long Island City attempted to stop at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and 60th Street at 4:55 p.m. when he veered to the left and lost control of the vehicle, colliding with several parked cars, police said.
His car then traveled onto the sidewalk and struck numerous pedestrians, 15 of whom were taken to Bellevue Hospital, police said. None had life-threatening injuries.
No arrests were made and no summonses issued, police said. The incident was under investigation.
Assailants terrorize woman, steal $1,300 in Elmhurst
ELMHURST — Two men forced their way into a woman’s apartment and tortured her until she revealed where money was hidden in her apartment, police said,
The two men entered the apartment at 85-05 Elmhurst Ave. at about 12:30 p.m. last Thursday, police said.
The men tied up the woman and her friend and demanded money, police said.
One of the men took a steak knife, heated it up on the stove and burned the woman’s back with the knife until she revealed where the money was, police said.
The men fled with the $1,300, police said.
The woman declined medical attention at the scene, police said.
Police were investigating.
Woman abducted, raped in East Elmhurst June 18
EAST ELMHURST — An 18-year-old woman was walking home about 2 a.m. June 18 when she was picked up in front of 31-12 92nd St. by a man driving an SUV who drove her to an unspecified location, raped and sodomized her, police said.
The man pulled a knife and forced the woman into the white SUV, police said.
The man then released the woman and fled the scene, police said.
The woman was treated at St. Vincent’s Hospital and later released, police said.
Police reported no arrests and were investigating.
Fatal shooting in East Elmhurst
EAST ELMHURST — A man in his 20s was shot and killed on 97th Street between 31st Avenue and Astoria Boulevard at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
The victim, who was shot in the back, was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:16 p.m., police said.
A 21-year-old man was also shot in the foot, and was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center in stable condition, police said.
The shootings were a result of a dispute with three unidentified men who fled the scene, police said.
Police reported no arrests and were investigating.
