To celebrate the monarch butterfly migration, “All A-Flutter,” an exhibition of stunning color photographs of Long Island and rain forest butterflies in their natural habitats, comes to sTudio 6 Gallery in Fort Tilden, Gateway National Recreation Area, from Aug. 24 through Sept. 22. An opening reception will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25.
The work of RAA nature photographers Holly Gordon, Laura M. Eppig and Kathleen Hervey will be displayed. Free admission. Gallery hours: Saturdays 12-5 PM, Sundays 1-4 PM. Fort Tilden is alive with butterflies in August and September. A seaside urban national park, it is the perfect setting to observe the beauty of these special creatures in photographs and in the field.
“All A-Flutter” is presented in partnership with Gateway National Recreation Area.
Through arrangements by the Rockaway Artists Alliance (RAA), Gordon, Eppig and Hervey will present a slide show/lecture and a photography exhibition at the New York Hall of Science in September. These will accompany the hall’s month of “Bugged Out Science Weekends” events. The color images seen in both the slide show and the exhibition are of butterflies seen in their natural environments. The slide show will reveal such fascinating stories as the magic moment a Blue Morpho butterfly was captured sitting on a colleague’s finger. The slide show/lecture takes place on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. in the auditorium. The exhibition runs from Saturday, Sept. 7 — Sunday, Sept. 22 in the Technology Gallery.
