This project has been designed to transform a vacant and underutilized lot into a beautifully landscaped and tranquil park that has now been designated as the site of the Rockaway Peninsula tribute to the approximately 70 men and women we lost on Sept. 11, 2001.
Project Guidelines:
o We are seeking an artist to create a “tribute” to those lost from Rockaway at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
o Our attainable fundraising goal for this project is a maximum of $75,000. Any lower bids will be accepted.
o Artwork must fit within a 10-foot-by-10-foot area at a maximum height of 12 feet.
o Electricity will be available to the site, though water is not planned at this time.
o Approximately 70 names must be included as an integral part of this tribute, representing those lost from this community at the World Trade Center.
o Considering the location, durability is an important factor — artwork should be salt and wind resistant.
o The artist is responsible for delivery and installation of artwork.
o Upon installation, ownership passes to the Rockaway Partnership.
o Preferential treatment will be given to an artist from Rockaway or Broad Channel.
o Resume and professional references required.
o Macquette and elevation drawings/dimensional schematics should be included.
o Description of methods, materials, and expenses required.
o Time frame must be defined.
o Deadline for submissions is Nov. 1.
o Notification of proposal acceptance will be by Dec. 1.
o Dedication of artwork planned for summer 2003.
o Artist will receive one third of the money in advance, and the remaining two thirds upon completion.
o The selection will be made by an independent panel chosen to represent the Rockaway community.
