Bayside Yankees to hold tryouts in September

The tryouts will meet on the following dates:

Monday, Aug. 16, at Baseball Heaven Sports Complex in Yaphank, N.Y. (Suffolk County, Long Island)

Sophomore Division: 14-and-under (born after Aug. 1, 1990) tryouts from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Rescue crews respond to tram emergency

Employees on the Queens side of the tram told the Fire Department no occupants were on the tram, the Breaking News Network reported.

The tram will remain closed for two weeks.

Cops investigate death of Jamaica man, 19

Brandon Smart, 19, of 177th Street, was at the corner of Guy R. Brewer and Foch boulevards at 11:56 p.m. Monday when an unknown gunman shot him once in the neck, police said. Smart was pronounced dead at the scene.

Woman shot during robbery attempt in Ridgewood

The man, described as a 6-feet-tall Hispanic male who was seen wearing a red shirt and black shorts, fled the scene without any of the woman’s property, cops said.
