If Marty Markowitz is the most popular man in Borough Hall, then Police Officer Robert Brennick could be a close second. For the past six years, Brennick has manned the front desk at Borough Hall, keeping the building secure and making friends along the way. After 20 years of service to the city, Brennick recently announced his retirement. This week the 84th Precinct Community Council said “thank you” by awarding Brennick “Cop of the Month” honors. Deputy Inspector Philip Sferrazza, the commanding officer of the precinct, said Brennick “always conducted himself in a professional manner.” Brennick, who spent his entire career at the 84th Precinct, said he and his wife are planning to move to South Carolina, where he plans to spend time playing golf. At a post with little fanfare attached to it, Brennick certainly made an impression. Markowitz recently threw a party in Brennick’s honor at Borough Hall. “Bobby made all of us here at Borough Hall feel secure and protected, and he made us chuckle now and then too. We wish him the best of luck—as well as plenty of time on the links—in his well-deserved retirement,” Markowitz said this week. Sferrazza said that until the party, he was unaware of the extent of Brennick’s popularity. “I didn’t know how much they appreciated him until that night,” the commanding officer said.
