Food deliveryman shot

Shi Yi Yan, a food delivery worker, was shot in the chest Wednesday, April 6, on 200th Street in Hollis, by two assailants. Yan was delivering food for Cheung Hing Kitchen, a nearby Chinese restaurant located on 199 Street and Hollis Avenue.
Yan is in critical, but stable condition at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Jamaica.
“This is a very nice neighborhood with nice people. Our restaurant has never had any problems before,” said Xiao Mao Guo, the owner of Cheung Hing Kitchen. “Yan is a nice man who worked very hard and we hope he will recover soon.”
Elected officials, including State Senator Malcolm Smith, Councilmen Leroy Comrie and John Liu, and other community leaders, condemned the vicious attacks against Yan at a gathering in front of Mary Immaculate Hospital the following day.
“We have zero tolerance for acts like this,” added Smith. “We encourage and support the police in their swift action to bring justice to this case and we will follow this closely through the court system.”
“The vicious and unwarranted attack on Mr. Shi Yi Yan demands a thorough investigation and aggressive prosecution,” Comrie said. “I urge members of the community to come forward with any information that will assist the police in their investigation.”
