Interview with Coach Wexler
BY JONATHAN ARCESE & TYLER CLARK
Mr. Wexler is the physical education teacher at P.S. 46 and coach of the ’46ers’ basketball team which includes a boys team and a girls team. He says that in order to be a good coach you must be strict, and you must love teaching basketball. Mr. Wexler held tryouts for the entire 4th and 5th grades. The team was formed in October and played their first game in January.
Mr. Wexler has strict rules for staying on the team. He will suspend a student if they miss one or more games and/or practices. He will also suspend a player if their teachers say they are falling behind in their work or if they have a disciplinary problem at school.
The teams have played two home games and three away games against other schools in the district: P.S. 213, P.S. 41 and P.S. 162. The boys team is undefeated with five winning games. The leading scorers for the team were Annas Alokush, Nile Walker, Isaiah Morgan. and David Montes, who was also the leading rebounder, and made the winning shot in the team’s last game.
The girls team won four of the five games they played. The leading scorers were Janaya Haskins and Emily Stratakos, who also made the winning shot in their last game.
