Far Rockaway Men Charged With Having ‘Cop-Killer' Gun

Three residents of the New York City Housing Authority’s Hammel Houses in Far Rockaway have been charged with illegally possessing two guns - a defaced FN 5.7 semi-automatic handgun and a 9mm semi-automatic handgun - and a bag of cocaine.
The Fabrique Nationale (FN) 5.7 handgun is often referred to as a “cop killer” because it has a high-capacity 20-round magazine, the ability to shoot 50 to 100 yards with great accuracy and its 5.7 x 28 bullet can penetrate 48 layers of Kevlar.  Of the 616 police officers killed in the line of duty nationwide between 1994 and 2003, 425 were killed with this handgun.
The defendants have been identified as brothers William Davis, 21, and Clarence Davis, 18, and their friend, Gquan Lloyd, 18, all of 81-10 Rockaway Beach Boulevard.  The three defendants are being held pending arraignment in Queens Criminal Court on charges of criminal possession of a weapon in the second, third and fourth degrees and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree. If convicted, the defendants each face up to 15 years in prison.
According to the criminal charges, police executed a court-authorized search warrant drawn up by the District Attorney’s Narcotics Investigations Bureau on the defendants’ Far Rockaway apartment. Once inside, police observed the three defendants inside a bedroom and recovered an unloaded FN 5.7 handgun with its serial number scratched off and a loaded 9mm semi-automatic revolver from a pair of boots inside a bedroom closet and a plastic bag containing approximately one-eighth of an ounce of cocaine underneath a mattress
