Pizzuti targeting quality of life issues

The new Patrol Borough Queens North Commander Diana Pizzuti said that some of the biggest issues brought to her attention by local residents concern quality of life, and she hoped to work with the precincts to further combat these issues.
“Quality of life, I think a lot of it comes down to respect of people,” Pizzuti said.
At the most recent meeting of the 111th Precinct Community Council, on Monday, April 30, Pizzuti asked Bayside residents to let her know the issues the police needed to work on.
And, residents responded with questions and concerns about graffiti, noise issues and the patrolling of parks.
Pizzuti said that police planned to cleanup additional graffiti sites, so that residents and business owners, who have been “hit” on several occasions, are not scrubbing and painting their properties as frequently.
“I hope that you don’t have to go cleanup the graffiti that is done by the youth,” she said.
In addition, locals asked if the area would get more cops - or if the ones assigned to the 111th would stay in the neighborhood or be redirected to other areas.
“We don’t just take from here. We take from all over,” Pizzuti said. “We try to deploy where it’s needed.”
Pizzuti pointed to a former 111th captain who was promoted to the Borough’s Anti-Crime Unit and replaced with a new officer at the Precinct.
“When we take, we try to give back,” she said.
If anyone has a problem or notices something suspicious, the fastest route to a solution is to call the police or the local precinct.
“We need you to help us,” she said.
For any other issues, area residents can also attend their Precinct Community Council meetings.
“These meetings give you not only the opportunity to see your own Precinct, but they have officers from each level,” she said. “If you look around, you’re going to see people representing different parts of the command.”
