By Dylan Butler

“Oli basically said, 'Kelly, there's no reason you can't make a layup because you're huge,'” Carman said. “And she said if I don't that she was going to beat me up.””Oli” is Ollieanna Burke, the Mary Louis senior guard who helped put Bishop Ford away with a late layup. But her biggest assist of the game proved to be the threat of a beat down.Carman responded by scoring all 12 of her points in the second half, including eight in the final three minutes, to lift The Mary Louis Academy to a 63-55 win over Bishop Ford at Pitaro Gymnasium Monday night.Bishop Ford had no answer for Carman, who played even bigger than her 6-foot-1 frame. The senior forward added 13 rebounds, including a few clutch boards in the final 1:22.”She needed this game, we needed her to have this game,” said Mary Louis coach Joe Lewinger, whose team improved to 7-4, 2-0 in Brooklyn/Queens Division I. Guarded by Jamie Conroy, who had 16 points and four rebounds, Mary Louis star Amanda Burakoski was held to 13 points, but she also had seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.Already nursing a variety of ailments, Mary Louis point guard Kelly Puwalski had 13 points, despite getting banged around by physical, gritty Bishop Ford.”I'll need a few ice packs tonight,” said Puwalski. “I was getting beat up, but we got the win.”
