QMA to celebrate India’s spring festival

The Queens Museum of Art and Independence Community Foundation will present “Celebrating Spring: Holi, the Indian Festival of Colors in Dance & Art” on Sunday, March 16 beginning at 1 p.m.
The event in celebration of Holi, which is India’s spring festival, will feature The Kathak Ensemble & Friends. The group is led by Artistic Director Janaki Patrik, who is also the founder of The Kathak Ensemble & Friends.
The Action Responsibility Creativity Home (ARCH) founder and Artistic Director Shridhar Shanmugam and two of the company’s dancers will also take part in the performance.
During the event, “projected images of sculptures, miniature paintings, embroidery and temple architecture are brought to life as the dancers depict stories which are typically painted, chiseled and embroidered onto static works of art.”
Light refreshments will be served afterwards. From 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., there will also be Holi-inspired art activities in the Education Studios.
