Kissena Clean-up

Students from Robert F. Kennedy Community High School in Flushing pitched in recently at the 2nd annual Kissena Park Clean Up and tree planting.
At nearly 235 acres, the park includes beautiful Kissena Lake and a historic tree grove with some of the most exotic tree species in the world, according to New York City Department of Parks and Recreation (DOPR).
In fact, the park got its start as an exotic tree nursery founded by Samuel Bowne Parsons around 1839.
Here, State Assemblymember Rory Lancman (third from left) takes a break, with (to his right) Beverly McDermott of the Kissena Park Civic Association, DOPR’s Steve Drago and the hard-working high schoolers, on Saturday, May 3.
