Field trip to Shea

Brooke Franklin has been rooting for the New York Mets throughout her 82 years. These days it is harder for her to go to games, but on Thursday, August 7, she made it to Shea Stadium, together with her co-residents from Regal Heights Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Jackson Heights.
Surrounded by the 10 other residents, Franklin stood at the crowded stadium, carefully watching a day game between the New York Mets and the San Diego Padres.
“I couldn’t wait to get here,” she said. “We don’t go out that much, but when we do, we go to great places.”
Near her sat 88-year-old Agnes Hromada, another Regal Heights resident. She loved the game too.
“I enjoy going out - it’s very exciting for me to be here,” Hromada explained.
“It [going out] is an opportunity for them to go out in the community,” said Betsy Lazarus, director of therapeutic recreation at Regal Heights Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Lazarus explained that about once a month, Regal Heights residents have a day out - they go to museums, performances and other events.
Regal Heights is a 280-bed nursing facility located on 70-75 35th Avenue in Jackson Heights.
