Robert “Bob” Timmel of Flushing passed away on October 1. He was 97 years old.
Formerly of Whitestone and Manhasset, he was born on March 5, 1911 to Abbert and Amelia Timmel. He graduated from Xavier High School in Manhattan and St. John’s University School of Pharmacy.
Timmel married his loving wife, Rita on February 22, 1941. She predeceased him in 2002, after 61 years of marriage.
His friendly personality and knowledge of advertising led him to establish his own advertising specialties business in 1947. With his sincere desire to satisfy the needs of his customers, he gained thousands of loyal clients, some for at least 50 years. Timmel, who was remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend to many, was hard working, self-reliant and a loyal friend to many, according to his family.
He is survived by his loving children, Alice (Tony) O’Reilly of Martinsville, N.J.; Robert Timmel of Washington, D.C.; John (Joanne) Timmel of Bedford, N.Y.; and William (Caryl) Timmel of Sandy Hash, CT.; as well as eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Luke’s R.C. Church in Whitestone. Interment was held at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury. Arrangements were handled by the Martin A. Gleason Funeral Home in Whitestone.
